Professor of Finance at the Faculty of Economics of Porto (Univ. Porto) where he has been a Faculty member since 1987, and at EGP-UPBS (1999 to date). EGP MBA Director (2002-2008) and Magellan MBA Director (since 2008). EGP-UPBS Vice-Dean (since 2009). Has held professional positions as financial analyst at CISF-Companhia de Investimentos e Serviços Financeiros (1987-1989), Senior Analyst and Assistant Director at the M&A Department of BPI-Banco Português de Investimento (1990-93) and independent financial consultant (1993 to date). Non-Executive Board Member of Martifer-SGPS since April, 2008. His research interests include corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and earnings management. Regularly presents his research at international conferences and has published several papers in refereed international academic journals (European Journal of Finance, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, International Journal of Auditing, Review of Financial Markets,) and in Portuguese journals (Cadernos do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários, Revista de Contabilidade e Comércio). Member of CETE - Research Center in Industrial, Labour and Managerial Economics at the Facul=ty of Economics, Univ. of Porto, Portugal, and Research Fellow at ICRA International Center for Research in Accounting at Lancaster University Management School, UK.
