Porto Business School (PBS), in collaboration with the Instituto da Defesa Nacional (IDN) as an institutional partner and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP) as an academic partner, announces the launch of the Geopolitical Risk Observatory for Businesses. This pioneering initiative aims to equip Portuguese organizations with the tools to navigate the complexities of the global geopolitical landscape.

For Porto Business School, Portuguese organizations are becoming increasingly aware of the relevance of geopolitical risks, recognizing their direct impact not only on global markets but also on supply chains, investment opportunities, and workforce security. In this context, the Geopolitical Risk Observatory for Businesses aims to identify the most pressing risks for companies and provide strategies for mitigation and opportunity optimization in times of uncertainty.

According to Jorge Rodrigues, Coordinator of the Geopolitical Risk Observatory for Businesses at Porto Business School, “In a time of global tension, it is crucial for Portuguese organizations to understand geopolitical risks and know how to act. With uncertainty surrounding U.S. foreign policy, the Middle East, Europe, and other international pressure points, the Observatory’s mission is to monitor critical risks and support the development of action plans to ensure the sustainability of institutions.

José Esteves, Dean of Porto Business School, reinforces: “Porto Business School’s mission is to prepare organizational leaders to navigate today’s major challenges. The launch of the Geopolitical Risk Observatory for Businesses reflects our commitment to supporting the Portuguese business community at this critical moment. Partnerships like the one with the Instituto da Defesa Nacional strengthen our ability to help companies better prepare for risk mitigation and opportunity identification in complex and dynamic environments.

The Geopolitical Risk Observatory for Businesses at PBS will gather information and conduct studies on the main global and regional geopolitical risks affecting Portuguese companies. It will also foster collaboration with academic, corporate, and governmental institutions, as well as promote best practices for risk management and mitigation strategies. Additionally, PBS offers executive education programs designed to equip business leaders and organizations with the skills to navigate these challenges.
