Porto Business School recorded a 16% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2024, according to the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Verification Report conducted by SGS as part of the school’s carbon footprint audit.
The results reflect the implementation of several efficiency and sustainability measures, including a 59% reduction in energy consumption and a 51% decrease in emissions associated with faculty travel. This progress was partly driven by stronger sustainable mobility policies, namely the replacement of air travel with train journeys on the Porto–Lisbon route.
Emissions associated with student commuting also decreased by 25%, highlighting the impact of measures aimed at promoting a more efficient and responsible management of the school’s activities.
These results are particularly significant as they were achieved in a context of substantial growth within the Porto Business School community, which increased from around 5,434 people in 2024 to 6,962 in 2025. Despite this growth, the school was able to reduce its emissions indicator from 0.37 tonnes CO₂e per person to 0.25 tonnes CO₂e per person.
This progress reflects Porto Business School’s commitment to sustainability and to the gradual integration of practices that help reduce the environmental impact of its activities.
The carbon footprint audit reinforces Porto Business School’s commitment to sustainability and to the continuous improvement of its environmental performance, at a time when the transition towards more responsible teaching and management models is increasingly relevant.
