Nature-Based Solutions for Knowledge & Technology Transfer to Innovate SME Business Models
The NBS4KTT project aims to strengthen the transfer of scientific and technological knowledge regarding Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). Its goal is to support SMEs in the North and Alentejo regions in innovating their business models, making them more sustainable, resilient, and competitive.
The project is structured around three key pillars:
- Creating scientific and technological knowledge bases on NBS.
- Developing and testing a practical framework for applying NBS in SMEs.
- Valorising and transferring this knowledge to the regional business fabric.
The project is developed in partnership between:
- Porto Business School (PBS) – Leads the management, SME capacity building, dissemination, and practical application within the business context.
- Estação Biológica de Mértola (EBM) – Generates scientific and technical knowledge on NBS, ecology, and regenerative agriculture, adapted to the territories.
A complementarity between North & Alentejo, Research & Transformation, Science & Management.
Key Activities and Results
For Porto Business School, the NBS4KTT project strengthens the School’s commitment to transforming knowledge into real impact. This project consolidates PBS’s position at the intersection of management, sustainability, and biodiversity, anticipating global trends and deepening its engagement in Alentejo and among SMEs in the North and Alentejo regions.
The initiative contributes to PBS’s strategic goals, sustainability, practical relevance, and international standards of excellence, pillars that guide Porto Business School’s mission and reinforce its role in empowering leaders for future challenges.

Accreditations
With three international accreditations – AMBA (Association of MBAs), AACSB, and EFMD – Porto Business School is among the top business schools in Europe. In 2023, the school renewed its AMBA accreditation for another five years and obtained accreditation from the BGA (Business Graduates Association), becoming the first Portuguese business school to achieve this recognition.
