Sustainability Milestone

Porto Business School has followed a structured and progressive path in implementing sustainable initiatives:

2010

Approval and implementation of the Code of Ethics and Conduct.

2013

Inauguration of the new campus, with LEED Gold certification — the first educational institution in Portugal to receive this distinction.

2014

Adoption of the PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) initiative.

2017

Awarded the BSIS (Business School Impact System) label, recognizing the positive impact of Porto Business School.
Launch of the first executive program focused on sustainability: the Open Executive Program in Sustainable Management.

2018

Awarded the Order of Merit by the President of the Portuguese Republic during the 30th anniversary celebration dinner of Porto Business School

2021

Creation of the largest organic urban garden in Portugal.
Recognition as a Public Utility Institution.

2022

Signing of the Porto Climate Pact, committing to a 60% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 compared to 2019 levels.
Completion of the first carbon footprint assessment of Porto Business School.

2023

Launch of the first edition of the Executive Master in Sustainability Management.
BGA (Business Graduates Association) accreditation.
Installation of 300 solar panels on campus.
Awarding of more than half a million euros in scholarships, expanding access to education and promoting diversity and inclusion.

2024

Signing of the Porto Climate City Contract, a European Commission initiative led by the Porto City Council, setting a more ambitious target of reducing carbon emissions by 85% by 2030 compared to 2019 levels.
Launch of the PBS Board Fellows initiative, offering MBA students the opportunity to join the governance bodies of nonprofit organizations for a six-month period.
Awarding of over 1.2 million euros in scholarships.

2025

Carbon footprint assessment completed (Scopes 1, 2, and 3).

Sustainability Strategic Pillars

The Sustainability Strategic Plan of Porto Business School is built around five key pillars, designed to integrate sustainability across all dimensions of the School.

Accreditations

With three major international accreditations—AMBA (Association of MBAs), AACSB, and EFMD—Porto Business School is among Europe’s leading business schools. In 2023, the School renewed its AMBA accreditation for an additional five years and obtained BGA (Business Graduates Association) accreditation, becoming the first Portuguese business school to achieve this recognition.
