Project management is a profession in development. Since its emergence from planning and scheduling techniques early last century, project management has evolved into managing changes in an increasingly dynamic and complex environment. As a result of this development, projects’ role in realizing (more) sustainable business strategies and a more sustainable society emerged as a new perspective on the way projects are developed, governed and managed. The concerns about the harmful effects of products and production processes on our planet, and the resulting development of the concepts of sustainability and social responsibility, pose new challenges for project management and project managers. Sustainable Project Management is therefore emerging as a new ‘school of thought’ in project management.
The will discuss the ‘Why?’, the ‘What?’ and the ‘How?’ of integrating sustainability into the management of your projects. The sessions will discuss the concepts of sustainability, the role of projects in sustainability, the impact of sustainability on project management, the integration of sustainability in the project management process, the assessment of project sustainability impacts, and the structure of a ‘Sustainability Management Plan’.
