Biography
Serafim Guimarães holds a Medical Doctor degree from ICBAS – Abel Salazar, University of Porto, board-certified in Nephrology and Clinical Pharmacology, with additional training in Emergency Medicine and Healthcare Unit Management (Católica Porto Business School and AESE PADIS), and a PhD in Health Sciences and Technology – Medical Decision from the University of Aveiro.
He is Clinical Director and partner at Caledial – Hemodialysis Centre of Vila Nova de Gaia, with extensive experience in Phase I and III clinical trials, having participated in over 100 studies and served as Principal Investigator in more than 70. He was Nephrology Consultant at Vila Nova de Gaia/Espinho Public Hospital, managing intermediate care structures, IT integration, and serving on ethics and therapeutics committees.
He also served as Research Physician Coordinator and Principal Investigator in clinical trials at Bial (2001–2010) and Blueclinical (since 2012), including first-in-man, drug interaction, food effect, and bioequivalence studies.
He is an Invited Lecturer at ICBAS and Associate Professor at Porto Business School, and played a leadership role in clinical management during the COVID-19 pandemic at Vila Nova de Gaia/Espinho Public Hospital.
