Carlos Francisco Ferreira Alves
Carlos Francisco Alves is BA, Masters and Ph.D. in Economics from Faculty of Economics, University of Porto, where he is professor and has taught and conducted various disciplines of finance, microeconomics and industrial economics and organizations, in courses undergraduate, graduate, masters and doctoral programs. He is also a researcher at CEF.UP. He was awarded the prize \"Best Student in Economics, Information and Management, established by Banco Totta & Açores, with the award\" Bank of Portugal, established by the bank with the same name, and with the \"Eng António de Almeida \", established by António de Almeida Foundation.
In terms of research areas, has worked primarily on the behavior of institutional investors, on the corporate governance, on the financial markets equilibrium and on the economics of low cost carriers. He is the author of several publications, including books, book chapters, working papers, scientific journal articles. He has papers published, among others, in the following journals: Corporate Governance: an International Review, Journal of Air Transport Management, Applied Financial Economics, European Accounting Review, Applied Economics, Journal of Transport Economics and Policy, Portuguese Economic Journal, Economics and Business Letters, Research in International Business and Finance an Applied Economics Letters. He also has about three dozen presentations of studies in international scientific conferences.
On the other hand, he was member of the Research Department of the Stock Exchange and Director of Capital Markets Institute. He was also advisor for the Secretary of State for Treasury and Finance, the XIII Constitutional Government. He was also Chairman of the Audit Committee of the National Institute of Statistics and Vice-Chairman of the Management Committee of the Euronext PSI. Moreover, he was member of the commission that written the White Paper on Corporate Governance in Portugal. He was also board member of the Portuguese Institute of Corporate Governance and director of the Portuguese Association of Financial Analysts. He was 2008 member of the Board of the CMVM between 2008 and 2016 (he has played the same role between 1998 and 2000) and he was Chairman of the Committee for Economic Analysis and Markets (CEMA) of the Securities and European Markets Authority (ESMA). He is Chairman of the Academic Council of Porto Business School.
